Episode 2 - Episode 2

Leading up to Mother's Day, the team must survive Lent and are forced to give up more than just cigarettes and sugar. A thief has been pinching their milk as well. With some covert spying, Fred and Sister Monica Joan are able to catch the thief - glamorous, shop-soiled Tina, a young woman with chipped nail varnish and layered make-up. She pleads with Sisters Julienne and Monica Joan, explaining that she's been stealing milk for her pregnancy. Sister Julienne wants to help Tina and encourages her to come to clinic where they can help provide everything she needs, so she won't have to keep stealing milk. Tina turns out to be rather a good storyteller: she claims this is her first pregnancy, but Shelagh discovers her episiotomy scar, prompting Tina to confess that she already has a son, but he lives with his father in America. She is also confirmed to have a venereal disease, which brings her into the care of the maternity home. As Sister Julienne learns more about Tina, she is convinced that this woman needs help to become the mother she wants to be.

Episode 3 - Episode 3

Lucille is seconded to St Cuthbert's when a ward Sister is off sick. Nurse Crane goes to the school to give the new pupils their inoculations and is concerned to meet two brothers, Rahul and Jalal, who are new and come from Sylhet in East Pakistan (Bangladesh). It is unclear which jabs the boys have had. The incubator fund has stalled, and Shelagh enlists Violet, Trixie, Sister Frances and Valerie to put on a charity fashion show for the community.

Episode 4 - Episode 4

Sister Julienne volunteers Nonnatus House to take part in a training initiative to help doctors with an obstetrics diploma. Dr. Turner and Sister Julienne hope the exercise will remind the council how vital Nonnatus House is to the community and avoid the threat of demolition. The young doctors cause a lot of excitement but end up causing Sister Julienne to lose her temper. This may not be the success she had hoped for. On his rounds, Fred comes across a street marked for demolition, but one house clearly shows signs of life. The sound of a cough leads him to the flat of 60-year-old George, who doesn't want to leave behind his beloved pigeon, Dot.

Episode 5 - Episode 5

Sister Frances is at a loss when she cares for diabetic and recovering cancer patient Albert Calthorpe, whose capable wife Grace refuses to accept further help despite having to care for her husband, her elderly mother, and a daughter who has a three-year-old and is about to have another baby. Nurse Crane and Sister Hilda become involved with an anxious new father, Ronald. Determined to be there for the birth of his first born, Ronald gets on Nurse Crane's nerves during the delivery. It is Sister Hilda who tactfully encourages Ronald to open up about his own childhood and get to the bottom of his motivations. Meanwhile, Violet is given two tickets to the new hit musical The Sound of Music, but as Fred is not interested in the film, Violet decides to raffle them off with all proceeds going to the incubator fund. Sister Monica Joan tries several times to win the tickets but is disappointed with each go. She soon concocts a plan to convince the skeptical Sister Julienne that perhaps a trip to the cinema might benefit the whole of Nonnatus House.

Episode 6 - Episode 6

Fred has been growing his large marrows for the Poplar Horticultural Show, but is saddened when he hears that the event has been cancelled. At the Turners, Shelagh receives a phone call from the Hong Kong adoption agency, who have alarming news. Someone from May's past has arrived in the UK and is keen to see the little girl. The Turners must decide how to react as they hope to keep their plans to adopt her on track. Meanwhile, at clinic, Valerie's cousin Maureen is heavily pregnant and hoping her baby will be born on Thursday, the same date as her father and grandfather. Though they've passed away, she thinks it'll connect them - but her due date isn't so soon. Keen to bring on the birth, Maureen takes a big risk.

Episode 7 - Episode 7

Dr. Kevin McNulty performs his final supervision under Dr. Turner, but he begins to show signs of strain as his shoulder injury flares up and he secretly takes pethidine for the pain when he's alone in his office. Soon after, full of confidence, Kevin ambitiously tries to deliver a baby on his own. Sister Frances arrives just in time to see that Kevin's decision has put mother and baby in danger. Trixie helps to prepare a blind mother, Marion, to care for her new baby, but Marion's sister, Beryl, calls Social Services to intervene. Beryl feels very strongly that Marion's blindness will prevent her from caring properly for her baby, even with the support of her husband Stewart. Once the baby is born, it's clear that Marion cannot cope without outside help. Trixie hopes she can find a way for Marion and Stewart to keep their baby.

Episode 8 - Episode 8

The team must rally to prepare for Sister Monica Joan's birthday. Meanwhile, the closing of a nearby maternity home brings an influx of expectant mothers to the Nonnatus midwives.
