Season 18 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - Called Home

Detective Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) leaves terrorist regions to return to his own family terror at home. After four years abroad, Detective Lupo (Sisto) returns to the United States to find his brother committed suicide by lethal injection because of his incurable illness. Before the case is closed, another man is found dead, having killed himself in an identical fashion. Lieutenant Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson) permits Lupo to work the case alongside fellow Detective Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin). Lupo and Green are suspicious of a recent parolee formerly known as "Dr. Death," and through further investigation they are inclined to believe "Dr. Death's" daughter (guest star Marin Ireland) could be a follower of her father's work. Also starring: Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache, and Alana De La Garza.

  

Episode 2 - Darkness

During a blackout, a panic-button alert sends Detectives Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin) and Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) to the home of a high level corporate executive, where they find a murdered housekeeper and his missing wife and daughter. Suspect Marty Dressler (guest star Patrick Stump, "Fall Out Boy"), an employee who works in the company's IT department, leads the detectives to the murderous plan. Also starring: Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache, and Alana De La Garza.

  

Episode 3 - Misbegotten

An explosion hospitalizes a pregnant guard, leading Detectives Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin) and Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) to a Gen-Tech scientist whose lab is housed in the same building where the bomb is delivered. When the detectives discover the injured security guard had been one of the doctor's research subjects, ADAs Michael Cutter (Linus Roache) and Connie Rubirosa (Alana De La Garza) suspect the security guard's brother-in-law. Episode 4 - Bottomless

When a pair of men's pants goes missing from a drycleaner, Detectives Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin) and Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) suspect the lost pants may be linked to the gruesome murder of a young lawyer. The evidence trail soon leads the detectives to a suspicious businessman who may be covering up a forbidden affair with a co-worker, and perhaps, far more. Also starring: Sam Waterston, S. Episode 5 - Driven

When a Caucasian teenage boy and young African American girl are found dead near a neighborhood playground, Detectives Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin) have trouble getting witnesses to talk after realizing the boy was targeted and the girl was killed accidentally. Two brothers and friends of the murdered boy, Andy (guest star Jeremy Allen White) and Josh Steel (guest star Miles Chandler), lead the detectives to a local kid Will Manning (guest star Tristan Wilds). Ultimately, it's Will's father Ray Manning (guest star Kevin Carroll) who admits to being the shooter. Ray's defense is that he feared for his son's life when he saw three boys chasing Will with baseball bats. This new information leads the detectives to suspect the Steel brothers and their overly aggressive mother, Gretchen (guest star Ally Walker). With racial tensions high in the community, the DA's office must decide how to charge and prosecute the case. Also starring: Sam Waterston, S. Episode 6 - Political Animal

When three roommates are found dead in their apartment, Detectives Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin and Cyrus Lupo's (Jeremy Sisto) initial examination of the crime scene suggests a murder-suicide amongst jealous lovers. This notion is quickly dismissed when the detectives discover one of the victims, Todd Stewart (guest star Jonathan Sale) an environmental attorney, had a closeted relationship with a prominent political figure. After the politician's fingerprints don't match the prints on the murder weapon the investigation shifts focus to Victor Vargas, a political fundraiser who gave the detectives their first lead. When Vargas' address turns out to be bogus and then a little background research uncovers a past of illegal activities including fraud, the detectives realize they've got their guy. But no one is prepared for the lengths to which Vargas will go and who among his political allies he will turn on to keep his freedom. Also starring: Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache and Alana De La Garza.

  

Episode 7 - Quit Claim

After a mother and daughter are killed in a hit and run accident, Detectives Green and Lupo (Jesse L. Martin, Jeremy Sisto) track down the vehicle and find only a stack of $100 bills left inside. A trace on the money leads the detectives to a young couple that are victims of a real estate scam. Green and Lupo decide the best way to crack this case is to go undercover with the help of Kim Brody (guest star January Jones), an employee at the title company that handled the closings on the illegal real estate deals. Brody proves not to be who she claims, leaving her innocence and real identity in question. Also starring: Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache, and Alana De La Garza.

  

Episode 8 - Illegal

A murdered woman is found in an alleyway dumpster after a riot at an immigration rally. Detectives Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Ed Green's (Jesse L. Martin) investigation leads to an auxiliary cop's over zealous attempt to stop the riot. The political nature of the case elevates tension in the DA's office as DA Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) assigns ADA Josh Lethem (guest star John Pankow) to prosecute the case. But Lethem has his own biased agenda, bringing McCoy's liberal background into question. Also starring: S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache, and Alana De La Garza.

  

Episode 9 - Executioner

Dr. Mark Burns (guest star Alan Zweibel) is found murdered in his hotel room while attending an out-of-town convention. Detectives Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Green (Jesse L. Martin) learn that Dr. Burns made a large withdrawal from his bank account moments before he was murdered. Evidence rules out the con artists who scammed Burns as suspects, but a hotel surveillance tape shows a man with a southern accent vehemently knocking on the door looking for a different physician, Dr. Garrison (guest star James Rebhorn). This finding leads the detectives to believe Dr. Garrison may have been the intended target and his life is still at risk. Also Starring: Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache, and Alana De La Garza.

  

Episode 10 - Tango

Two inebriated high-school girls, Kelly Daugherty (guest star Lisa Joyce) and Anne-Marie Liscomb (guest star Molly Ephraim), are agitated after their car is towed at a party. Liscomb walks off to make a phone call in an attempt to call a ride, and is found dead in a dumpster days later. After tracking down the cab driver that picked up Liscomb, new information leads the detectives to a drug-addicted prostitute with an affluent past, known as "Sugar" (guest star Maria Dizzia) and her partner Tito Cabassa (guest star Pedro Pascal). A war of words unfolds as the detectives pit the prostitute and pimp against each other to see who will talk first. When the case goes up for trial, ADA Connie Rubirosa (Alana De La Garza) appears to have an unrelenting admirer in the jury pool. Also Starring: Sam Waterston, S. Episode 11 - Betrayal

A psychiatrist is found shot to death in his office, and Detectives Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin) and Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) initially suspect one of his young patients. Clues lead the detectives to the doctor's jealous and much younger wife, Catherine (guest star Moira Kelly). The pressures of the case drive Catherine to admit her troubled past leading to his murder. The prosecuting team, Michael Cutter (Linus Roache) and Connie Rubirosa (Alana De La Garza) are then faced with the daunting task of convincing the jury that Catherine's troubled youth is no excuse for murder. Also starring: Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache, and Alana De La Garza.

  

Episode 12 - Submission

The police break up a dog-fighting ring, and discover a woman's finger inside one of the dead animals. The finger is identified as belonging to Lauren Vance, soon-to-be ex-wife of Marty Vance (guest star Adam Rothenberg), after her body turns up near a dog breeder. Since Lauren and her husband were in the process of divorce proceedings, Detectives Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin) and Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) initially suspect Marty as the brutal murderer. Marty was involved in the dog-fighting ring with friend and business partner Jay Carlin (guest star David Harbour), an extremely wealthy wine dealer. As the investigation unfolds, the detectives plot to trick an ambitious reporter, Dawn Talley (guest star Lara Flynn Boyle), who uses her sexuality to try to break the case. Turns out Jay's business is a scam, which leads prosecutors Michael Cutter (Linus Roache) and Connie Rubirosa (Alana De La Garza) to a new suspect. Also starring: Sam Waterston and S. Epatha Merkerson.

  

Episode 13 - Angelgrove

When art dealer Audrey Lortell (guest star Lisa Peluso) is found stoned to death, Detectives Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin) suspect her killing may have been linked to some of the cultural and religious artwork showcased in her gallery. After Lupo listens to an intimate taped conversation between Lortell and an artist, the detectives look further into her personal life; uncovering infidelity and her son's, Jason (guest star Will Denton), troubled past and current involvement in a fanatic religious group. Initially, the murder appeared to have a terrorist link, but Jason's new behavior suggests the killer is closer to home. Also starring: Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache, and Alana De La Garza.

  

Episode 14 - Burn Card

A part-time referee is found murdered, and Detectives Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin) and Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) investigate the victim's gambling habits. The detectives are led to notorious hustler, 'Bunny' (guest star Bobby Jones), a familiar face from Detective Green's past. When 'Bunny' is found dead, Detective Lupo is called to the scene and discovers his partner, Detective Green, is the shooter causing confusion in the department and disbelief in the DA's office. The case is turned over to internal affairs Detective Kevin Bernard (Anthony Anderson) and Sergeant Gregory Cole (guest star Peter Bradbury), leaving Detective Green to face his dark past and in danger of losing his badge. Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache and Alana De La Garza also star.

  

Episode 15 - Bogeyman

A novelist is found dead in her car, which appears to be a suicide at first inspection, but Detectives Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Kevin Bernard (Anthony Anderson) have reason to believe a cult known as "Systemotics" is involved. The victim's husband, Bradley Cameron (guest star Daniel London) explains to the detectives that he and his wife were paranoid that members of the cult had been trailing them recently. However, Bradley comes under suspicion as the detectives begin to chip away at his alibi. When the case goes to trial, ADA Michael Cutter (Linus Roache) has trouble prosecuting his case when several members of the jury fear for their own safety. Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Alana De La Garza also star.

  

Episode 16 - Strike!

When legal aid striker Frank Dresner (guest star Justin Hagan) is killed outside the courthouse, the sand in Dresner's wounds lead Detectives Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Bernard (Anthony Anderson) to investigate a greensman at a local golf course. Greensman Ted Sanderson (guest star Brad William Henke), who had already served nine years in prison for the murder of his wife, claims he is innocent once again. Due to the legal aid strike and the shortage of defense attorneys, ADA Connie Rubirosa is ordered to represent the defendant, pitting Rubirosa and Cutter against one another. Also starring: Sam Waterston and S. Epatha Merkerson.

  

Episode 17 - Personae Non Grata

Automobile mechanic Eric Greenwood is found murdered outside of a bar leading Detectives Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Kevin Bernard (Anthony Anderson) to question the victim's boss, Bob Munsen (guest star Barry Del Sherman). Lupo and Cyrus discover Munsen was involved in an online relationship that Greenwood had sabotaged. Munsen profited over $60,000 dollars of stolen money, and laundered the money to his young, online lover, "Jenny Cheponis." The case takes some strange twists and turns, as "Jenny" turns out to be an older woman, Donna Cheponis (guest star Melissa Leo), with a missing daughter. Greenwood exposed the online relationship between Munsen and Cheponis and ended up dead, but "Jenny" remains missing. The detectives struggle to solve the case of murder and deceit in this online murder mystery case. Also Starring: Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache, and Alana De La Garza. Special Guest Star: Tom Everett Scott.

  

Episode 18 - Excalibur

Jeweler Victor Madison is found murdered, and Detectives Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Kevin Bernard (Anthony Anderson) investigate a peculiar deposit made into Madison's bank account. The deposit leads the detectives to investigate Madison's brother-in-law, Frank Beezley, who was running an illegal prostitution ring, The Excalibur Club. Closing the case proves to be a challenge, as the trial gets risky for Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) when his job is threatened. Also Starring: S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache, and Alana De La Garza. Guest Star: Tom Everett Scott.
