Julia Child prepares food in the French style in this richly popular cooking show, which was inspired by her book `Mastering the Art of French Cooking.' Child is hearty, engaging and down-to-earth, earning legions of fans for---besides the great recipes---the sheer entertainment value of her show, and making her easy fodder for parody, most memorably on `Saturday Night Live' when she was played by Dan Aykroyd. Child's other cooking shows include `Julia Child & Company' and `The Way to Cook.'
