Became a star in Canada by appearing on TV and in films, such as The Rez, Power Play, Cube 2: Hypercube, A Colder Kind of Death and Blue Murder. Won a 2001 Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Guest Role for her appearance on Blue Murder and was subsequently invited to join the show as a regular cast member. Dean McDermott (Actor) .. Mark Simpson
Born: November 16, 1966
Birthplace: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Trivia: Especially to younger viewers, screen heartthrob Dean McDermott is probably best known for his portrayal of "himself" on the Oxygen Channel reality series Tori & Dean: Inn Love. That program bore witness to the adventures of McDermott and real-life wife Tori Spelling (90210 vet and the daughter of the late megamogul Aaron Spelling) as the pair opened and ran a B & B in sunny Southern California and awaited the arrival of a new baby. Fans may not realize that prior to this, McDermott's acting resumé extends back into the late '90s. At first, the Toronto-born actor maintained a low profile in mostly forgettable programmers, such as the Canadian sports drama Rookies (1989) and the Mr. T movie Straight Line (1988). He then landed a recurring role on the popular Alliance Atlantis satirical comedy Due South, as Const. Renfield Turnbull. After roles in the telemovies Jack Reed: Death and Vengeance (1996) and Brian's Song (2001), McDermott took a few steps up -- and then some -- with his enlistment in the cast of the glorious Kevin Costner Western Open Range (2003), as Doc Barlow. McDermott, however, culled a whole new legion of fans as a reality television star in Tori & Dean, which followed the celebrity couple as they started a family while running a California bed and breakfast.

Received a 1999 supporting-actress Gemini nomination (Canada's Emmy equivalent) for Power Play, a CTV hockey drama. Played a psychic FBI agent in the 2003-'06 Lifetime crime drama Missing. Has costarred twice with her sister Francesca: in the 2001 coming-of-age comedy-drama My Horrible Year and a 2004 episode of Missing. Had the title role in Alice, the 2009 SyFy updating of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Is qualified to teach canoing.
Gordon Pinsent (Actor) .. Duff McCardle
Born: July 12, 1930

Kids have heard him as the voice of the title character in the animated HBO series Babar (1989-93). Pinsent's other weekly TV roles have included Sergeant Scott in The Forest Rangers (1964), the title character in Quentin Dergens MP (1966), Hap Shaughnessy in Red Green (1990- ) and Sergeant Frazer in Due South (1994-95). Fiona Highet (Actor) .. Raeanne Simpson
Al Waxman (Actor) .. Coach Lloyd Gorman
Born: March 02, 1935
Died: January 18, 2001
Trivia: Ubiquitous Canadian actor/director Al Waxman is not always cast in leading roles, but he is invariably given special billing, usually with a box around his name in the opening credits. This honor is well-deserved; in show business since the 1950s, Waxman labored long and hard to make a name for himself. During his first Hollywood stay in the 1960s, Waxman worked as a waiter and bouncer between engagements. He was fired from his job as a short-order cook at Barney's Beanery after sneaking extra portions of food to his fellow starving artists. Returning to Canada in the late 1960s, Waxman directed several intriguing but unsuccessful low-budget films, among them Tviggy (the story of a Jewish model), The Crowd Inside, and the soft-core My Pleasure is My Business. He finally struck gold in the role of blue-collar blowhard Larry King on the popular 1970s Canadian sitcom King of Kensington, which clocked in at 111 episodes, 65 of which were syndicated to the U.S. On the strength of this series, Louis Malle cast Waxman as ever-grinning cocaine dealer Alfie in Atlantic City (1980). Waxman has remained busy ever since, as both actor and director (White Light [1991], The Diamond Fleece [1992]). Most American televiewers know Waxman as short-tempered Lt. Bert Samuels on Cagney and Lacey (1982-88). For many years, Al Waxman's wife Sara wrote a food and restaurant column for a major Toronto newspaper.
