Season 1 / Episode 1

Dominant NCAA coach for Wisconsin Marvyn Korn is blacklisted from college ball after throwing a chair at a referee. Desperate to work again, Marvyn hopes his agent, Sam, can pull some strings. But there’s only one place willing to take him: an elite private high school in La Jolla, CA. It’s a far cry from the glory of college ball. But if things work out at Westbrook, Marvyn can restore his tarnished image and get back to the NCAA. Marvyn swallows his pride and moves out West, leaving behind his teenage daughter, Emma, and ex-wife, Caren, in Wisconsin – a fitting move for a man who has always placed his career above everything else. Marvyn soon realizes he’s in over his head at Westbrook, as he’s tested by Larry, the overbearing dad of the team’s star player; Sherilyn, the no-nonsense principal of Westbrook; George, the over-eager school counselor; and Holly, the team’s assistant coach, who has her work cut out for her in teaching Marvyn – a man accustomed to the toxic culture of men’s college ball – how to navigate an high school team. But Marvyn’s biggest challenge comes from his players, particularly Louise – Larry’s daughter and the team’s alpha – who tests Marvyn’s leadership from day one. Gravely ill-equipped to handle teenagers, Marvyn finds that gaining his players’ respect and turning them into a competitive basketball squad is no easy task. But when he leads the team to a near-victory against rival Laguna Niguel, Marvyn shows the players they have greater potential than they’d ever imagined. An emotionally closed off man, Marvyn discovers that his new gig may force him to step out of his comfort zone, to challenge his priorities, and maybe, just maybe – become a better man. Some flashing lights sequences or patterns may affect photosensitive viewers.
