BABY FEVER
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
The Danish do it again with this hilarious comedy drama where Josephine Park is fertility doctor Nana, whose life revolves around her clients who are all desperately trying to become pregnant. Nana has never seriously had the desire for children until she accidently encounters her ex-boyfriend, Mathias, and the spark is still there. When she and her friend, who is the receptionist at the clinic, get into a drunken state after hours, Nana makes a decision that will lead to confusion for herself, everyone associated with her and the clinic. For the first time in her life, Nana has to tell the truth – and maybe reveal a secret that could ultimately cost her everything. This is a marvellous series and there are two seasons. Funny, tragic, dramatic… it’s all of those.

WEDNESDAY
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
Season 2 has landed. This is excellent viewing from director Tim Burton. If you’re an Addams Family fan and had misgivings about yet another version of this wacky family, put them aside as this is highly enjoyable and entertaining. Jenna Ortega is wonderful in the title role and there’s a talented ensemble cast which includes Christian Ricci, who starred as Wednesday in The Addams Family in 1991. In the second season, Wednesday returns to Nevermore and, while developing her psychic abilities, must face a new tormentor and prevent her roommate’s death. In addition, Pugsley enrols at Nevermore as Weems’ successor Barry Dort wants Morticia to take on a fundraising role.

HOSTAGE
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
The talented Suranne Jones does an excellent job as British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton in this somewhat tense thriller, with Julie Delphy as her French counterpart. Dalton is running on a platform that puts the NHS first. But shortages in cancer drugs are leading to unrest across the country. The only person who may help is Vivienne Toussaint, the right-leaning French president. But tragedy strikes when Dalton’s husband is kidnapped in French Guiana, whilst at the same time Toussaint is blackmailed for a past indiscretion. The two women must come together to uncover the truth and protect the future, facing unimaginable forces. Is it a predictable hostage tale? Yes, at times, but it held my attention, and the villain wasn’t immediately obvious.

DEAR CHILD
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
This Emmy-winning series is a complex tale which begins with what seems like a simple scenario. Be aware that there are disturbingly graphic scenes. The story tells of Lena who lives in complete isolation together with the two children Hannah and Jonathan in a highly secured home. They eat their meals, go to the toilet and to bed at precisely prescribed times. They obey to everything he says. Until the young woman manages to escape. After a near fatal car accident, she is hospitalised, accompanied by Hannah. But the true extent of this nightmare is revealed with the arrival of Lena’s parents at the hospital the same night. They have been searching for her for 13 years. But all is not as it appears. Great viewing from Germany.

EMILY IN PARIS
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
There are four seasons to binge… if you like this sort of thing. I find it a very colourful, bright atmosphere, which is refreshing after all the dark crime I usually favour, but a little excessive at times. This series has it all, but Paris is the star. Emily is a little annoying in her attitude to France and the French, but she does temper this as the story progresses. Emily is hired by a marketing firm in Paris to provide them with an American perspective on things. She comes up against all the usual office politics and the way business is conducted by her French colleagues. But the clothes are chic, and the Paris streets and restaurants are charming, and the guy downstairs in her apartment building is gorgeous, which makes up for all the negative reactions Emily at first receives. However, her choice of clothes is just a bit out there, although it did garner a 2025 Emmy nomination for Costume.

WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
Historical Asian content is a drawcard for me. The costumes and sets are exquisite and ornate… that’s if you’re wealthy or of royal standing. Plus, this series has the added bonus of food! The story tells of French chef Yeon Ji Yeong who wins a top competition but after an encounter with a solar eclipse whilst on an aircraft, she mysteriously lands in Joseon Dynasty, where she must cook fusion royal cuisine for a tyrannical king with an extremely sensitive palate. Korean content has become popular on Netflix, and this one is no exception. Thoroughly enjoyable viewing… and, did I mention there is food?

UNDER THE QUEEN’S UMBRELLA
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
We’ll stay in South Korea for this interesting series which focuses on Im Hwa Ryeong, who is the wife of a great king. Her life revolves around trying to reign in her troublesome sons who are in line to be turned into proper crown princes. But instead of having an aura of elegance and grace, she is a prickly, sensitive, and hot-tempered queen. Her ambitions for her sons are thwarted at every turn by conniving courtesans, who also want their sons to achieve status, and a manipulative, ruthless Dowager Queen. Im Hwa Ryeong’s life is full of trials, but she withstands them, all for the sake of her children. Entertaining viewing, although it is very busy and everyone’s rushing about so it’s often difficult to keep up with who is undermining who.

DEATH INC
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
If you cannot see the amusing side of death, this comedy series from Spain is not for you. It is hilarious, but in no way disrespectful. When the Torregrosa Funeral Home founder dies suddenly, his widow defies expectations by taking over the funeral home against the right-hand man’s plans, and the wishes of her children who want to sell the family firm. She faces competition, internal conflicts and a #metoo case that threatens the company’s legacy as some of her late husband’s indiscretions come to light. Enjoyable viewing, but not if you can’t look on the bright side of death.

TWO GRAVES
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
Moving on from Spanish comedy to a Spanish revenge thriller. When the vanishing of two teen girls shocks a coastal town, bereft grandmother Isabel starts an unsanctioned investigation to uncover the truth behind her 16-year-old granddaughter Verónica and her friend Marta’s disappearance, embarking on a journey of vengeance. She will risk everything to uncover the truth by sharing her information with Marta’s father, Salazar, the town’s feared gangster. But has she unleashed a monster. This is a solid drama but perhaps stretched out to accommodate the miniseries format.

KATRINA: COME HELL AND HIGH WATER
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
For the most part I was unaware of the damage, devastation and repercussions on New Orleans during and after hurricane Katrina. 20 years on this documentary revisits the hurricane that caused 1,392 fatalities and more than $100 billion in damages in 2005. Survivors take a look back at the disaster that changed their lives and reveals the injustice and prejudice the people of the city were exposed to. This is confronting and disturbing.
