Wanted to be a performer since childhood, but parents would not allow her to pursue it professionally until she graduated from college. Was a member of the improvisational-comedy troupe Just Add Water while an undergraduate at Yale. Wrote a series of videos for Web site Funny or Die called Will & Kate: Before Happily Ever After, in which she also appeared as Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge.
An October 2010 YouTube video featuring Williams singing the Nat King Cole hit "Nature Boy" to the Mad Men theme song so impressed producer Judd Apatow that he wanted her to audition for the character Marnie in the HBO series Girls, which premiered in 2012.
