Trivia: Brando-esque leading man Michael Parks was one of five children of an itinerant laborer. Like the rest of his family, Parks drifted from job to job in his early teens, briefly marrying at 15. When he wasn't nickel-and-diming it as a migrant worker, Parks acted with amateur theater groups up and down the California coast. Discovered by an agent in 1960, Parks was signed to a Universal contract, spending most of his time on suspension due to his ornery outspokenness. He settled down long enough to play an au naturel Adam in John Huston's The Bible (1966) and to star as a young motorcyclist in search of the Real America on the 1969 TV series Then Came Bronson. Parks astonished his anti-establishment fans in 1968 when he supported George Wallace for the presidency. Parks' film appearances since then have been confined to second-string productions, though he managed to attract attention in 1977 by portraying Bobby Kennedy in The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover. In 1990, Parks co-produced as well as starred in Caged Fury, though it was his turn as Canadian mobster Jean Renault in David Lynch's Twin Peaks that offered him the most exposure that year. Numerous film and television roles followed, and in 1996 director Quentin Tarantino gave Parks a career-boost by casting him in the violent horror/crime hybrid From Dusk Till Dawn (a role that the actor would reprise in Kill Bill, Vol. 1, Death Proof, and Planet Terror). A turn as the volatile leader of a religious cult in Kevin Smith's Red State capitalized on Parks' intense onscreen charisma, and in 2012 he could be spotted in director Ben Affleck's Argo. And though the documentary Kevin Smith: Burn in Hell found the outspoken Clerks director jokingly chiding "View Askewniverse" veteran Affleck for "cherry-picking" Parks on the strength of his Red State performance, few would deny that the talented Parks would have likely won the role on his own merit. Parks died in 2017, at age 77.

Trivia: Actor Joby Baker was at his busiest as a young TV leading man in the early 1960s, making guest appearances in such series as Dr. Kildare and Cain's Hundred. Baker also played comedy relief in Elvis Presley's Girl Happy (1966), and began a long association with Walt Disney Studios, where he appeared in Bullwhip Griffin (1966), Blackbeard's Ghost (1967) and Superdad (1974). In 1968, Baker was topbilled on Good Morning World, a sitcom about a pair of frantic disc jockeys named Lewis and Clark (Ronnie Schell of Gomer Pyle fame was Clark). Then followed over a decade of character roles, culminating with a regular stint as Colonel Marvin on the 1980 series Six O'Clock Follies, an ill-advised sitcom set in Saigon during the Vietnamese war. In addition to his acting credits, Joby Baker was a professional painter of note; several of his abstract works were exhibited in major Los Angeles art galleries.

Trivia: Ruth Shoecraft was born in Michigan and raised in Ohio, where her father served as a county sheriff. At 20, Shoecraft attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, but put her theatrical aspirations on the back burner when she married a Florida widower named Patrick John McDevitt. When her husband died in 1934, Shoecraft returned to the stage asRuth McDevitt, first in community theatre, then on Broadway and in radio. She made her first film in 1951, but for the most part steered clear of Hollywood, preferring to appear in such Manhattan-based plays as The Solid Gold Cadillac, Picnic, The Best Man and Absence of a Cello. McDevitt's entree into weekly television was on the classic early-1950s Wally Cox sitcom Mr. Peepers, in which she played Wally's mom. Her next series stint was as rifle-wielding Grandma Hanks in the short-lived 1967 western comedy Pistols and Petticoats. During the 1960s, she returned to films, usually playing a dotty little old lady with more on the ball than people suspected. Still going strong in the early 1970s, Shoecraft played recurring roles on the TV series All in the Family and Kolchak. Ruth McDevitt made her last appearance at age 80 in the made-for-TV feature One of My Wives is Missing (1976).

Trivia: African American athlete Rafer Johnson was but a few years out of UCLA when he distinguished himself at the 1960 Olympics, scoring 8,392 points in the Olympic Decathalon. A film career followed posthaste, first in flicks like Elvis' Wild in the Country (1961), then in outdoor adventures like Pirates of Tortuga (1961) and None But the Brave (1965). Because truly good roles for black performers were still hard to come by in the mid-1960s, Rafer occasionally had to accept demeaning "fierce native" assignments in films like Tarzan and the Great River (1967). He was also a semi-regular on the "blaxploitation" film scene of the 1970s, acting as producer of 1974's Buck Six. In 1979, Rafer Johnson enjoyed a more dignified role in the TV miniseries Roots: The Next Generation.
