Manoj Kumar (Actor) .. Shankar
Born: July 24, 1937
Birthplace: Abbottabad, NWFP, British India
Trivia: Along with his family, had to flee Delhi aged ten, following the dissolving of British India. Named himself Manoj Kumar after Dilip Kumar's character in Shabnam (1949). One of the few people to have won both the Filmfare Best Director and Best Actor Awards, for Upkaar (1967) and Beimaan (1972), respectively. Was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, in 1992. Received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999.

Trivia: An onscreen presence in her native India from the early 2000s, Jaya Bachchan achieved stardom and lead status with Pradeep Sarkar's Laaga Chunari Mein Daag -- Journey of a Woman (2007). In that film, she plays one of two sisters who migrate from the rural home of their family to a new life in the big city, but run headfirst into a series of complications and personal crises.

Trivia: Is the son of Kartarnath Malhotra, a high-ranking police officer, who was also the maternal uncle of Prithviraj Kapoor. Lived on a meagre diet of peanuts and sugarcane juice during his early days of struggle in Hindi cinema. Played his first leading role in Ajit (1948). Was paired for the first time with his would-be wife Bina (Anarkali) Rai in Aurat (1953), a Bollywood version of the tragic Biblical tale of Samson and Delilah. Fell in love with co-star Bina Rai of Aurat (1953) and married her during 1952. Set up, along with his wife Bina, his own production unit known as P.N. Films. Produced the first film Shagufa (1954) under his production company P.N. Films, which had him and his wife in the lead. Travelled to the Kailash mountain range in Tibet and made a documentary on his travels, Kailas Darshan, in 1957. Wrote novels in Hindi and English, was deeply spiritual, and had an unsuccessful run as a producer of four films and three documentaries. Had his real-life father's portrait shown in the film Kalicharan (1976) in the background of a scene where he was playing chess. Has a biographical documentary 'Amar Prem Nath Last of the Titans' directed by his son, Monty Nath, that screened on Zee Classic. Bailed out 1940s Bollywood actress Cuckoo with a loan and gave money to Bollywood actor Amrish Puri to cover the costs of his play that was washed out by rain.

Trivia: Worked as a voice actor at a radio station to help fund his studies. Played alongside his future wife Manju Bansal in Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar (1973) and Tapasya (1976). Won the Filmfare Best Comedian Award for Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar (1973) and Balika Badhu (1977). After directing the Gujarati film Amdavad No Rikshawalo (1974), all of his subsequent films have been in Hindi. Was director of the renowned Film Institute in Pune from 1988 to 1993.
