Trivia: Actor/director/producer William Conrad started his professional career as a musician. After World War II service, he began building his reputation in films and on Hollywood-based radio programs. Due to his bulk and shifty-eyed appearance, he was cast in films as nasty heavies, notably in The Killers (1946) (his first film), Sorry Wrong Number (1948) and The Long Wait (1954). On radio, the versatile Conrad was a fixture on such moody anthologies as Escape and Suspense; he also worked frequently with Jack "Dragnet" Webb during this period, and as late as 1959 was ingesting the scenery in the Webb-directed film 30. Conrads most celebrated radio role was as Marshal Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke, which he played from 1952 through 1961 (the TV Gunsmoke, of course, went to James Arness, who physically matched the character that the portly Conrad had shaped aurally). In the late 1950s, Conrad went into the production end of the business at Warner Bros., keeping his hand in as a performer by providing the hilariously strident narration of the cartoon series Rocky and His Friends and its sequel The Bullwinkle Show. During the early 1960s, Conrad also directed such films as Two on a Guillotine (1964) and Brainstorm (1965). Easing back into acting in the early 1970s, Conrad enjoyed a lengthy run as the title character in the detective series Cannon (1971-76), then all too briefly starred as a more famous corpulent crime solver on the weekly Nero Wolfe. Conrad's final TV series was as one-half of Jake and the Fatman (Joe Penny was Jake), a crime show which ran from 1987 through 1991.

Trivia: Born in Indiana and raised in Texas, Andrew Duggan attended Indiana University on a speech and drama scholarship. He was starred there in Maxwell Anderson's The Eve of St. Mark, which was being given a nonprofessional pre-Broadway tryout; on the basis of this performance, Duggan was cast in the professional Chicago company of the Anderson play. Before rehearsals could start, however, Duggan was drafted into the army. After wartime service, Duggan began his acting career all over again, working at his uncle's Indiana farm in-between Broadway and stock engagements. In Hollywood in the late 1950s, Duggan was co-starred in the Warner Bros. TV series Bourbon Street Beat and was featured in such films as The Bravados (1958), Seven Days in May (1964) and In Like Flint (1967). He also was starred on the 1962 TV sitcom Room for One More and the 1968 video western Lancer. Because of his marked resemblance to Dwight D. Eisenhower, Duggan was frequently cast as generals and U.S. presidents. Andrew Duggan's last screen appearance was in The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover.

Trivia: In films from 1971, Billy Green Bush has usually projected a good-ol'-boy image. Though there were the occasional villains in his TV and film manifest, Bush was most often seen as sheriffs and state troopers. His credits extend from such landmark 1970s efforts as Five Easy Pieces (1971) and Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974) to such 1990s potboilers as Friday the 13th Pt. IX: Jason Goes to Hell (1993). Bush has also twice essayed the role of Vernon Presley, first in the 1988 TV movie Elvis and Me, then in the short-lived weekly series Elvis (1990). Billy "Green" Bush is the father of twin actresses Lindsay Greenbush and Sidney Greenbush.

Trivia: If you were an avid television viewer throughout the 1960s and '70s, chances are good that you have fond memories of former stage star-turned-small-screen stalwart Hal England. A frequent guest-star on such television hits as Bewitched, Sanford and Son, CHiPs, and Charlie's Angels, the talented character actor could always be counted on for a memorable secondary role. A native of North Carolina who showed an affinity for the stage early on, England got his big break on Broadway while working as an understudy to Robert Morse in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. An early association with Joseph Papp's Shakespeare in the Park found England standing out in such productions as Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth, with a role in the short-lived 1960 television series The Clear Horizon marking his entrance into television. In the years that followed, England would also move into feature-film territory with roles in Hang 'Em High and The Dirt Gang. Frequent appearances in such made-for-television features as The Amazing Howard Hughes and Sweet Bird of Youth also kept England busy on the small screen. In the early '90s, England could be seen in The Bonfire of the Vanities and Going Under, but the 1991 made-for-television feature Our Sons provided him with his last substantial role. On November 6, 2003, Hal England died of heart failure in Burbank, CA. He was 71.
