Barbara Shelley (Actor) .. Valerie North
Born: January 01, 1933
Trivia: After working as a model in her native London, brunette leading lady Barbara Shelley began her filmmaking activities in Italy in 1953. Though exuding such qualities as class and intelligence, Shelley's film career was by and large limited to screaming and cringing in an endless stream of horror films. Her better-known credits within this genre include The Cat Girl, Blood of the Vampire, Shadow of the Cat, Village of the Damned, The Gorgon, Rasputin the Mad Monk, Dracula Prince of Darkness, 5,000,000 Years to Earth, and her last theatrical feature, Ghost Story (1974). On television, Barbara Shelley has been seen in worthwhile character roles in such productions as the 1979 miniseries Pride and Prejudice (as Mrs. Gardiner) and the 1989 British TV movie Maigret.
Eugene Deckers (Actor) .. Inspector Quercy
Born: January 01, 1916
Died: January 01, 1977
Trivia: French stage actor Eugene Deckers relocated to England when his Nazi-held homeland was liberated by the Allies. Re-establishing himself on the British stage, Deckers made his first English language film appearance in 1946. Formerly a romantic lead, he specialized in "continental" character roles, playing many an obsequious concierge and imperious diplomat. As he grew older, Eugene Deckers expanded his characterization range to include Germans and Italians as well as Frenchmen; he made his final screen appearance in 1968.
George Pastell (Actor) .. Georges Olivant
Born: March 13, 1923
Died: April 15, 1976
Birthplace: Cyprus
Trivia: British actor George Pastell began appearing in films as early as 1952. He was busiest at the Hammer Studios in the late '50s to early '60s, playing supporting roles in such melodramas as The Mummy (1959) (as the High Priest), Stranglers of Bombay (1961), and The Siege of Sidney Street (1962). His TV credits included the long-running cult favorites Dr. Who and The Avengers. As far as can be determined, George Pastell retired in 1969.
Esmond Knight (Actor) .. Antoine Louvois
Born: May 04, 1906
Died: February 23, 1987
Trivia: Active the London theatrical circles from 1925, British actor Esmond Knight first set foot on a movie sound stage with 1931's The Ringer. His career momentum was almost permanently interrupted in 1941, when, while serving with the Royal Navy, he was temporarily blinded in battle. He regained enough of his sight to resume his filmmaking activities in 1943, appearing in such productions as Powell and Pressburger's A Canterbury Tale (1944), Black Narcissus (1946) and The Red Shoes (1947), Olivier's Henry V (1945) and Richard III (1955), and Jean Renoir's The River (1951). In 1960, Knight co-starred in Sink the Bismarck (1960), a reenactment of the naval battle in which he'd been blinded 19 years earlier. Long married to actress Nora Swinburne, Esmond Knight died in Egypt while filming The Balkan Trilogy.
