Husky American leading man Kiel Martin went from regional repertory to films in 1968. Nine years later, he was cast in his first recurring TV-series role in the daytime drama The Edge of Night. His most celebrated prime-time TV assignment was as detective J. D. LaRue in the Emmy-winning Hill Street Blues (1981-86); he followed this with a less lengthy stint on the forgotten Fox Network sitcom Second Chance. Kiel Martin died of lung cancer at the age of 46.
