Ben Cross (Actor)
Born: December 16, 1947
Birthplace: London, England
Trivia: Formerly of the RADA and Royal Shakespeare Company, British leading man Ben Cross made an impressive film debut as Olympic athlete Harold Abrahams in Chariots of Fire (1981). Cross' participation in this Oscar-winning film immediately opened up new professional doors and increased his asking price. But he was not about to blindly capitalize on his new fame; he turned down 100,000 dollars to play Prince Charles in a made-for-TV movie in favor of appearing for a comparative pittance in a BBC miniseries adaptation of A.J. Cronin's The Citadel. He has continued to select film, stage, and TV roles on the basis of quality rather than monetary potential. One exception may be Cross' acceptance of the role of centuries-old vampire Barnabas Collins in the failed 1991 revival of the cult-favorite TV series Dark Shadows.
Cathy Underwood (Actor)
Kenneth Colley (Actor)
Born: December 07, 1937
Birthplace: Manchester
Trivia: Hollow-cheeked character player Kenneth Colley acted in several of the "trendy," director-dominated films glutting the market of his native England in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Colley was seen in Michael Winner's The Jokers (1967), Richard Lester's How I Won the War (1968), Ken Russell's The Devils (1971) and The Music Lovers (1971). Many of the actor's later performances were in more conformist films like Hitler: The Last Ten Days (1973) and Return of the Jedi (1983) (as Admiral Piett), though in 1989 he was back with Ken Russell in The Rainbow (1989). Colley portrayed Lord Horatio Nelson in the four-part TV biography I Remember Nelson, telecast in America as part of the 1981-82 season of Masterpiece Theatre.
Gary Piquer (Actor)
Maurice Denham (Actor)
Born: December 23, 1909
Died: July 24, 2002
Trivia: A former engineer, British actor Maurice Denham first appeared on-stage in 1934, making his London bow two years later. During his five years' wartime service, Denham built up a "man of a thousand voices" reputation on such radio series as the ITMA Show and Much-Binding-in-the-Mash. He made his first film appearance in 1947. While garnering excellent press for his stage portrayals of Macbeth and Uncle Vanya, he was usually seen in lesser roles in films, playing dozens of clergymen, detectives, politicians, prison governors, and military officers. He was also a regular on the 1971 TV series The Lotus Eaters. Maurice Denham's crowning film achievement was one in which his face was never seen: In the 1955 animated feature Animal Farm, Denham provided the voices of all the animals.
William Franklyn (Actor)
Born: September 22, 1925
Died: October 31, 2006
Trivia: British actor William Franklyn added films to his stage credits starting in the mid '50s. He gained worldwide prominence with Enemy From Space (1957), a filmization of the popular British science-fiction TV series Quatermass II. Many of his screen performances were in period costume, which he wore as if he'd just stepped out of an earlier century: The Legend of Young Dick Turpin (1964), The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973) were two of the many. William Franklyn moved between films and TV with impunity throughout the '60s and '70s.
Lalita Ahmed (Actor)
Born: November 25, 1939
