Birthplace: New Westminster
Suzanne Pleshette (Actor)
Born: January 31, 1937
Died: January 19, 2008
Birthplace: Brooklyn, New York, United States
Trivia: Glamorous, down-to-earth leading lady Suzanne Pleshette was the daughter of the managing director of Brooklyn's Paramount Theater. She attended Performing Arts High School, Finch College, and Syracuse University. After some TV experience, she made her film debut in Jerry Lewis' The Geisha Boy (1958), then went on to replace Anne Bancroft as star of Broadway's The Miracle Worker. During her years at Warner Bros., Pleshette successfully avoided simpering ingénue roles, holding out for parts requiring beyond-her-years emotional depth. Her flair for comedy was delightfully tapped during her subsequent tenure with Disney in such films as The Ugly Dachsund (1967) and The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin (1968). Pleshette's film work, however, has never struck so responsive a chord with the fans as her television work, notably her portrayal of Emily Hartley on The Bob Newhart Show (1972-1978) -- a role that she briefly and hilariously reprised on the very last episode of Newhart's subsequent series, Newhart. She then starred in several short-lived TV series, including Maggie Briggs (1984), Bridges to Cross (1986), and The Boys Are Back (1994), and was also a ubiquitous presence in such made-for-TV movies as Leona Helmsley: The Queen of Mean. And yes: Incredible as it may seem, Suzanne Pleshette was once married to Troy Donahue. Pleshette died of respiratory failure in January 2008.
Tom Atkins (Actor) .. Sheriff Collier
Born: November 13, 1935
Birthplace: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States
Trivia: Was an avid fan of horror films in his childhood days. Enlisted in the United States Navy before attending college. Was a member of the Gamma Phi Fraternity while attending Duquesne University. Got interested in acting when he was in his 20s. Primarily known for his work in horror and thriller films.
Paul Benjamin (Actor) .. Cooper
Trivia: Originally from South Carolina, actor Paul Benjamin made his film debut in 1969 as a bartender in Midnight Cowboy. After a small role in Sidney Lumet's The Anderson Tapes, he did television work throughout the '70s. A few notable exceptions involved small parts in Gordon Parks' biopic Leadbelly and Don Siegel's prison film Escape From Alcatraz. He fared better on CBS in the TV adaptations I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and Gideon's Trumpet. He got his first major starring role in the HBO movie The Man Who Broke 1,000 Chains, based on the novel by Robert E. Burns. On the big screen during the '90s, Benjamin worked with some well-known directors. He appeared in Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing, Robert Townsend's The Five Heartbeats, Bill Duke's Hoodlum, and John Singleton's Rosewood. On television, he appeared in the 1994 pilot episode of ER, which led to his recurring role of homeless man Al Ervin during the next few seasons. Benjamin also worked on the American Masters documentary of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ralph Ellison, which aired on PBS. After 2000, he appeared primarily in small independent films like Stanley's Gig, The Station Agent, Deacons for Defense, and James Hunter's 2004 drama Back in the Day.
Ann Wedgeworth (Actor) .. Susan Berger
Born: January 21, 1934
Birthplace: Abilene, Texas, United States
Trivia: Hailing from Texas, actress Anne Wedgeworth first appeared on Broadway in the 1958 production Make a Million. She began making film appearances playing slightly tarnished golddiggers and seductresses in the early '70s. One of Ms. Wedgeworth's best appearances in this vein was in Bang the Drum Slowly (1973), in which she portrays the fading "baseball groupie" who hopes to leech off dying ballplayer Robert De Niro. For her performance as Joyce Rissley in 1977's Citizen's Band (aka Handle with Care), Wedgeworth won the National Society of Film Critics award. Wedgeworth's TV credits include the same role on two separate '70s soap operas: she was Lahoma Vane Lucas on both Another World and its spin-off, Somerset. She also had recurring roles on the weekly series Three's Company (appearing in the 1979-80 season as neighbor Lana Shields) and 1982's Filthy Rich (as Bootsie). Ann Wedgeworth came full circle when she played a supporting role in another "dead baseball player" opus, the made-for-cable Cooperstown (1993).
