Ken Berry (Actor)
Born: November 03, 1933
Trivia: Actor/dancer Ken Berry was brought to Broadway as a member of the Billy Barnes revue. His early TV work included the recurring role of Woody the bellhop on The Ann Sothern Show (1959-60). In 1965, Berry was cast in his most celebrated TV role: bumbling Cavalry captain Wilton Parmenter on F Troop (1965-67). When Andy Griffith decided to leave his highly rated TV sitcom in 1968, the series' title was changed to Mayberry RFD and Berry was cast in the central role of town-councillor Sam Jones. CBS' peremptory cancellation of Mayberry in 1971 left Berry in a financial bind, compelling him to accept a hosting stint on a doomed-from-the-start variety series, Ken Berry's WOW (1972). More recently, Berry has been seen as Vint Harper on the well-distributed Vicki Lawrence sitcom Mama's Family (1983-1989). For many years, Ken Berry was married to dancer/comedienne Jackie Joseph, of Little Shop of Horrors fame.
Maureen Arthur (Actor) .. Arlene
Born: April 15, 1934
Birthplace: San Jose, California
Trivia: Zaftig blonde comic actress Maureen Arthur gained a degree of fame on TV in the early 1960s for her dead-on impersonation of Marilyn Monroe. She was seen in this characterization on variety programs, talk shows and TV commercials until the real Monroe's death in 1962. Thereafter, Maureen trafficked in dumb-broad characters, notably as the "kept" secretary Hedy LaRue in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (1967). A poster from the 1968 spy flick A Man Called Dagger, depicting a bikinied Maureen chained and shackled to leading man Paul Mantee, has become a valuable collector's item in certain fetishist circles. In the early 1980s, Maureen Arthur was a semi-regular on TV's Mork and Mindy, playing a flirtatious middle-aged grade-school student.
Mclean Stevenson (Actor) .. Miller
Born: November 14, 1927
Died: February 15, 1996
Birthplace: Bloomington, Illinois, United States
Trivia: Though he has appeared on several television series, including one named after himself, McLean Stevenson is best remembered for playing the slightly befuddled Lt. Colonel Henry Blake during the first three years of the long-running series M*A*S*H (1972-1983). He has also occasionally worked in feature films, making his debut in The Christian Licorice Store (1971). Stevenson made his television debut playing Michael Nicholson between 1969 and 1971 on The Doris Day Show. The son of an Illinois cardiologist, Stevenson did not become an actor until he was 31. Prior to that, he sold medical supplies, worked as an insurance clerk, was a seaman, and served as Northwestern University's athletics director. It was while at Northwestern that Stevenson earned a theater arts degree. According to Stevenson, the idea to become an actor came to him while he was walking across a football field watching the players. Believing that most of them were wasting their time, he thought it better to go to New York and act. Following his education, Stevenson did just that and spent much of the '60s performing in nightclubs and comedy spots as well as working in summer stock. He also wrote comedy for Tommy Smothers.
Carol Wayne (Actor) .. Carlotta
Born: September 06, 1942
Died: January 13, 1985
Birthplace: Chicago, Illinois
Trivia: Former professional skater Carol Wayne became an actress after an injury took her permanently from the ice. She appeared on television as a frequent guest of Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show, and in a few feature films. With her statuesque figure and platinum blonde hair, she was easily recognizable. Wayne disappeared during the course of a vacation in Mexico in January 1985; her body turned up two days later, the apparent victim of an accidental drowning. She was only 39.
