Born: June 10, 1960
Birthplace: Madras, Karnataka, India
Trivia: His father introduced him to the acting world at the age of 14, giving him a role in the movie Tatamma Kala (1974). The government of Andhra Pradesh gave him a Best Actor Award for his first performance. Made his debut as a hero in Sahasame Jeevitham (1984). Worked as an associate director for Samrat Asoka (1992), his father's last directional venture. In 2009, organised an event involving the entire Telugu Film Industry to help raise funds for the Kurnool flood victims. Became the managing trustee and chairman of the Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (BIACH & RI) in 2010. Participates actively in events supporting various social causes conducted by Movie Artists Association (MAA). Fondly known as Balayya in the Telugu film industry.

Received a nomination for the Filmfare Best Actor Award through his performance in Humraaz (2002).
