Switched Before Birth follows Olivia Crawford and her husband Brian, who after multiple miscarriages, numerous failed IVF trials and stretching themselves to the limit financially, finally receive the joyous news that she's pregnant with twins. While going through her latest round of IVF, Oliva meets and becomes fast friends with Anna Ramirez, who is struggling to have a child after years of focusing on her successful restaurants.

A performer whose onscreen activity peaked in the 2000s, Puerto Rican-American actress Justina Machado specialized in portrayals of mature and professional Latina types, often with a pronounced maternal quality and a sexy edge. Early assignments consisted of bit roles in the Nick Cassavetes-directed drama She's So Lovely and the Steven Spielberg epic fantasy A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, as well as guest spots on such series as ER, Angel, and Touched by an Angel, though Machado only rose to fame courtesy of her portrayal of Vanessa Diaz, the wife of mortician Rico (Freddy Rodriguez), on the HBO drama Six Feet Under. In 2007, Machado appeared in a supporting role as Sophia, under the aegis of director Griffin Dunne, in the romantic comedy The Accidental Husband.

Television viewers first caught notice of Skyler Samuels when she became a junior correspondent for Access Hollywood at the age of 8. Background roles on shows like Drake & Josh and The Suite Life of Zach and Cody followed, and by the time the actress was 15, she was starring in the 2009 remake of The Stepfather. The next year, Samuels would change gears for the family comedy Furry Vengeance, before switching it up once more for a role in the scary TV series The Gates. Though The Gates ended its brief run after just one season, Samuels quickly bounced back as the lead in The Nine Lives of Chloe King -- an ABC Family action/adventure series following a high school girl with feline powers as she takes flight from a secret society intent on seeing her dead.
