Moved to Calcutta at age 10, with her family, and stayed for 18 months. Has worked on stage and screen, and also writes for both. Played Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night's Dream, opposite Timothy Spall as Bottom, in the 1992 National Theatre production. Adapted Satyajit Ray's Devi into a five-part radio series called The Goddess in 2006 after gaining permission from Ray's son, Sandip. Created production company Lesata Productions with Rosa Maggiora in 2010. The two producers were nominated for the Best Producer Award at the Underwire Festival, London, in 2011. Won the Charles Wintour Award for Most Promising Playwright at the 2012 Evening Standard Awards for her play Red Velvet, which sold out in two runs.
