Started singing at her church school. At the age of 11, was awarded a scholarship to train at the Italia Conti Academy. Appeared in the West End production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium in 2005. Signed to L.A. Reid's Island Def Jam Music Group in 2006. Her first two singles, "Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh)" and "Boys and Girls," both topped the UK Singles chart in 2009. Released her debut album, Turn It Up, in 2009. Appeared in FHM's 100 Sexiest Women list from 2010 to 2013. Opened an associate school of her alma mater, Italia Conti, in Chelmsford in 2014. Appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2014. Supported the Penny for London charity initiative, believed to be the world's first contactless donation scheme, which closed in 2016 having raised just £3,000.
