Made his acting debut in Betaab (1983), which earned him a nomination for the Filmfare Best Actor Award. Winner of two National Film Awards: The Special Jury Award for Ghayal (1990) and the Best Supporting Actor award for Damini (1993). Five-time nominee for the Filmfare Best Actor Award, winning it in 1991 for Gayal (1990). Debuted as director/producer with Dillagi (1999), where he also starred alongside his brother Bobby Deol. Appeared in The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003), the most expensive Bollywood film at the time of its release.
