Came to acting quite late in life, and made his television debut in 1997 on the eve of turning 40. Has acted both on the screen and on the stage, including in the English play Salt & Pepper, which his own production company, Leela Theatres, produced. Has said in the past that his most challenging and demanding role as an actor was playing Mohandas Gandhi in the 2007 film Ghandi My Father.
