First played a small role in the movie Aawara (1951). Played the protagonist for the first time in a Marathi movie Aandhala Magto ek Dola (1956). Made his Bollywood debut with the film Aarti (1962). Runs his own production house called Ramesh Deo Productions. Received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the film industry at the 11th Pune International Film Festival in 2013. In 2013, Ramesh Deo Productions was the only Indian winner at the 60th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Its entry Parallel Journeys, an ad for Nike India, won in the Sound Design category.
