Jim Brown (Actor) .. Roy Kenner
Born: February 17, 1936
Died: May 18, 2023
Birthplace: St. Simons Island, Georgia, United States
Trivia: Born in Georgia and raised in a black Long Island ghetto, Jim Brown distinguished himself in high school athletics. Recruited from Syracuse University, Brown was signed with the Cleveland Browns in 1957, remaining with that organization as star fullback for ten years. Breaking any number of NFL records, Brown was named Rookie of the Year in 1958 and Player of the Year in 1960; he played in every Pro Bowl game from 1958 through 1965, and in 1971 was elected to the Football Hall of Fame. While still with Cleveland, Brown made his film debut in the 1963 Western Rio Conchos, an event deemed worthy of a four-page color spread in Life magazine. He became a full-time actor upon his retirement from the NFL in 1967, co-starring that year in The Dirty Dozen. Though he had trepidation about the climactic scene in which he blew dozens of helpless Nazi officers and their sweethearts to bits with hand grenades, it was this uncompromising sequence that truly "socked" Brown over with the audience. He rapidly rose to leading roles in such actioners as Ice Station Zebra (1968) and 100 Rifles (1969); in the latter film, he stirred up controversy by sharing several steamy scenes with white actress Raquel Welch. Brown also headlined the above-average crime capers Kenner (1969) and Black Gunn (1972) as well as the ultraviolent Slaughter series. He cut down on his film appearances in the late '70s, devoting most of his time to his many civic activities and business concerns; during this period, he also founded the Black Economic Union. After several years' absence from the screen, Jim Brown co-starred with fellow blaxploitation icons Fred Williamson, Pam Grier, and Richard Roundtree in the delightfully "retro" action-fest Original Gangstas (1996).
Madlyn Rhue (Actor) .. Anasuya
Born: October 03, 1937
Died: December 16, 2003
Trivia: Madlyn Rhue, on her own in New York since the mid-'50s, took short-term jobs ranging from cigarette girl to magician's assistant. She made her TV acting debut in 1959, the same year that she appeared in her first film, The Miracle. Not a great beauty by 1960s standards, Rhue's face had an aura of inner resilience, enabling her to portray virtually everything from long-suffering heroines to calculating villainesses. Her busy private life was always a source of interest to gossip columnists; in her heyday, she was squired by such eligibles as Cary Grant and Vic Damone. In the 1980s, Rhue fell victim to a neuromuscular illness which limited her to roles that did not require her to walk or stand up. Eventually, Madlyn Rhue worked just long enough each year to cover her medical expenses; she was most often seen in the recurring role of the Cabot Cove librarian in the weekly TV mystery series Murder She Wrote.
Ricky Cordell (Actor) .. Saji
Robert Coote (Actor) .. Henderson
Born: February 04, 1909
Died: November 25, 1982
Trivia: Born in London and educated at Sussex' Hurstpierpont College, actor Robert Coote can be described as Britain's Ralph Bellamy. After making his film debut in the Gracie Fields vehicle Sally in Our Alley (1931) and spending several years on the London stage, the gangly, mustached Coote settled in Hollywood, where in film after film he played stuffed-shirt aristocrats, snooty military officers and clueless young twits who never got the girl. Coote interrupted his film career for World War II service as a squadron leader with the Canadian Air Force, then returned to supporting roles in such films as The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947) and Forever Amber (1948). In 1956, Coote was cast as Col. Pickering in the long-running Broadway musical My Fair Lady; eight years later he appeared in the weekly TV series The Rogues, generally carrying the series' plotlines when the "official" stars--David Niven, Charles Boyer and Gig Young--were indisposed. Robert Coote's last film appearance was as one of the theatrical critics dispatched by looney Shakespearean actor Vincent Price in Theatre of Blood.
Charles Horvath (Actor) .. Tom Jordan
Born: January 01, 1920
Died: July 23, 1978
Trivia: Charles Horvath entered films in the immediate postwar years as a stunt man. From 1951 onward, Horvath began receiving speaking roles, most often in westerns. He occasionally accepted contemporary parts, playing rednecks and toughs in such films as Damn Citizen (1957). Charles Horvath spent his last decade playing featured roles in films like A Woman Under the Influence (1974) and The Domino Principle (1977).
Premnath (Actor) .. Sandy
Born: November 21, 1926
Died: November 03, 1992
Birthplace: Peshawar, North-West Frontier Province, British India
Trivia: Is the son of Kartarnath Malhotra, a high-ranking police officer, who was also the maternal uncle of Prithviraj Kapoor. Lived on a meagre diet of peanuts and sugarcane juice during his early days of struggle in Hindi cinema. Played his first leading role in Ajit (1948). Was paired for the first time with his would-be wife Bina (Anarkali) Rai in Aurat (1953), a Bollywood version of the tragic Biblical tale of Samson and Delilah. Fell in love with co-star Bina Rai of Aurat (1953) and married her during 1952. Set up, along with his wife Bina, his own production unit known as P.N. Films. Produced the first film Shagufa (1954) under his production company P.N. Films, which had him and his wife in the lead. Travelled to the Kailash mountain range in Tibet and made a documentary on his travels, Kailas Darshan, in 1957. Wrote novels in Hindi and English, was deeply spiritual, and had an unsuccessful run as a producer of four films and three documentaries. Had his real-life father's portrait shown in the film Kalicharan (1976) in the background of a scene where he was playing chess. Has a biographical documentary 'Amar Prem Nath Last of the Titans' directed by his son, Monty Nath, that screened on Zee Classic. Bailed out 1940s Bollywood actress Cuckoo with a loan and gave money to Bollywood actor Amrish Puri to cover the costs of his play that was washed out by rain.
