Asa Butterfield (Actor) .. Nathan Ellis
Born: April 01, 1997
Birthplace: Islington, London, England
Trivia: British-born Asa Butterfield began his acting career when he was eight years old, playing the role of Andrew in the 2006 TV movie After Thomas. He would make a bigger splash the next year, with a role in the indie comedy Son of Rambow, and again the next year, in the Holocaust drama The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Butterfield then took on the role of Mordred in the TV series Merlin, before joining the cast of the 2010 family film Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang. While his role in the latter did offer the charismatic youngster a respectable amount of exposure to the tween set, it was Butterfield's next big role -- as the eponomous orphan in Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning film Hugo -- that truly cemented his reputation as a rising star. On the heels of that resounding success, Butterfield made Hollywood headlines when it was announced that he would next take the lead in Enders Game, a big-budget adaptation of Orson Scott Card's celebrated sci-fi novel.
Rafe Spall (Actor) .. Martin Humphreys
Born: March 10, 1983
Birthplace: London, England
Trivia: Named after the title character in Francis Beaumont's The Knight of the Burning Pestle, played by his father Timothy Spall in a 1981 Royal Shakespeare Company production, and then by himself in a 2005 revival. Encouraged by his father to join the National Youth Theatre at age 15. At 19, unhappy with the "fat boy" parts he was being offered, began dieting and exercising and eventually lost nearly 80 pounds. Bared it all for his first leading role in 2006's The Chatterley Affair. Acted opposite his real-life dad, playing father and son, in a 2007 British television adaptation of E. M. Forster's A Room With a View. Worked out for his role in the romantic comedy I Give It a Year, saying he wanted to look convincing enough for co-star Rose Byrne to conceivably fancy him.
Sally Hawkins (Actor) .. Julie Ellis
Born: April 27, 1976
Birthplace: Dulwich, London, England
Trivia: British actress Sally Hawkins parlayed her English refinement into an extremely varied series of roles beginning in the early 2000s -- including occasional crime-themed action pictures, social-consciousness dramas, and contemporary suspensers. She took one of her first international bows as a 19th century lesbian in the U.K. miniseries Tipping the Velvet (2002), appeared as Slasher in Matthew Vaughn's Guy Ritchie-influenced gangster film Layer Cake (2004), and played Susan, a pregnant rich girl desperate for an abortion, in Mike Leigh's searing, heart-wrenching character study Vera Drake (2004). The actress then signed for one of the key roles in Woody Allen's European thriller Cassandra's Dream. She scored her greatest success so far reteaming with Mike Leigh for 2008's Happy-Go-Lucky. Her work earned her a number of year end critics awards including the New York Film Critics award for Best Actress. She followed that up with a small part in the Best Picture nominee An Education, playing a teacher in the sci-fi drama Never Let Me Go, and playing the unlikely leader of a worker's revolt in the British period piece Made in Dagenham. She appeared in the quirky romantic comedy Submarine, and played Mrs. Reed in the well-reviewed 2011 adaptation of Jane Eyre.
Eddie Marsan (Actor) .. Richard
Born: June 23, 1968
Birthplace: Bethnal Green, London, England
Trivia: A prolific character actor in his native Britain, Eddie Marsan specialized in challenging and provocative roles, in slightly tough and edgy projects that often took advantage of his unique, immediately identifiable countenance. After debuting as a bit player and guest star in English television series including Casualty, Game On, and The Bill, Marsan took one of his premier big-screen bows in Michael Radford's crime thriller B. Monkey (1998), then effectively played one of Tammany Hall's minions opposite Daniel Day-Lewis and Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese's period crime epic Gangs of New York (2002). On a much different note, Marsan subsequently teamed up with English cause célèbre director Mike Leigh in the abortion-themed character study Vera Drake (2004) -- in which the actor ushered in a partly improvised portrayal of a kindly road worker who romances the title character's daughter. Drake brought Marsan an upsurge of attention, and thereafter, assignments rolled in quickly and furiously from both sides of the Atlantic. These included supporting roles in Isabel Coixet's gentle, atmospheric drama The Secret Life of Words, Neil Burger's period supernatural drama The Illusionist, and the mega-budgeted action extravaganza Mission: Impossible III. 2008 marked a busy period for Marsan; that year, he both tackled a supporting part opposite Will Smith and Charlize Theron in the superhero comedy Hancock, and -- on a much-anticipated note -- re-teamed with Mike Leigh for a prominent role as an angsty teacher in the slice-of-life comedy Happy-Go-Lucky.
