Trivia: Jockey turned singer/actor, Davy Jones played the adorable mop-top Davy on the mid-to-late '60s phenom television series, The Monkees. He and his fellow manufactured bandmates Peter Tork, Mickey Dolenz, and Michael Nesmith made one film together -- Head (1968). After the group's demise, Jones occasionally played himself as a guest star on television (Brady Bunch) and in commercials. In 1995, he again played himself in The Brady Bunch Movie. Jones and all the other Monkees, except Nesmith, periodically got back together for tours and reunion concerts.

Trivia: Learned to play piano at the age of 9. Was part of Edwin O. Smith High School's first graduating class. Landed his spot in the Monkees thanks to a recommendation from friend and fellow musician Stephen Stills. In 1972, he spent three months in jail for hashish possession. Trivia: Donna Loren was, after her slightly older contemporary Annette Funicello, the actress who got the most professional exposure from American International Pictures' Beach Party movies. Like Funicello, Loren had a wholesome image in those films; in contrast to Funicello, Loren was actually a teenager for the run of the series. Born Donna Zukor in Boston, MA, in 1947, Loren began performing professionally in 1955 when she got a job singing a commercial jingle for Meadowgold Ice Cream. That very same year, she was a guest on a new children's television program called The Mickey Mouse Club (which featured Funicello in its cast of regulars). She began her professional recording career in 1956 and was one of the busier child performers for the next decade, making commercials that used her infectiously wholesome smile to plug a variety of products and cutting the occasional single. Her breakthrough came in 1963 when she won a talent search for the "Dr. Pepper Girl." Her face appeared on billboards, her voice was heard on the radio, and she was seen on television (including regular appearances on American Bandstand) and in personal appearances plugging the soft drink Dr. Pepper. The company agreed to have its teenage spokeswoman appear in the movie Beach Party, as a sight gag, plugging the soft drink (whose makers had helped finance the film), but producers Samuel Z. Arkoff and James H. Nicholson were so pleased with her presence on camera and her voice, that they gave her a song to perform, and Loren got an actual acting role in Bikini Beach, the follow-up film. She subsequently appeared in Muscle Beach Party, Pajama Party, and Beach Blanket Bingo -- the latter resulted in the release of her first and only LP, Beach Blanket Bingo, on Capitol. Loren closed out her screen career in the Frankie Avalon vehicle Sergeant Deadhead, although she continued making records into the following year. In contrast to such AIP actresses as Salli Sachse and Joy Harmon, who got work into the late '60s playing bad girls, Loren's clean, wholesome image, reminiscent of Lesley Gore, seemed locked into the mid-'60s. Following another foray into recording during the 1970s, Loren left behind performing as a career and has since emerged as a successful clothing designer with her own label, ADASA Hawaii.

Trivia: Multi-talented Michael Nesmith has come a long way from playing the quiet Monkee in the little wool cap on the popular 1960s sitcom The Monkees. Since then he has proven himself an innovator in musical genres and music videos -- his work in the latter area led to the creation of the MTV network. Nesmith is also a movie and television producer. Born in Houston, TX, Nesmith is the son of Bette Nesmith Graham, the woman who invented Liquid Paper correction fluid. Before auditioning for The Monkees in 1965, Nesmith had served a two-year stint in the Air Force, worked as a backup musician in Nashville, performed in a Los Angeles-based folk-rock duo with his friend John London, composed songs, including "Mary, Mary" and "Different Drum," and recorded a few singles. While with the Monkees, Nesmith wrote several of their hits and helped persuade the Monkees' "handlers" to allow them to produce their own records. He left the television group after completing their only feature film, Head (1968), to form his own band and then launched his solo career. In 1977, he designed a new television show called Popclips, in which he utilized live music clips while counting down the week's chart-toppers. The show is credited for inspiring the genesis of MTV. Nesmith's mother died in 1980 and left him half of her Liquid Paper fortune (worth over 20 million dollars). Nesmith then launched his own record and film production company, Pacific Arts, which became the number one source of American music videos in the '80s, and won the first Video Grammy for it in 1981. In the late '80s, Nesmith made his own filmmaking debut with the inventive music video "Elephant Parts." He reunited with the Monkees and continued to occasionally perform with them. In 1997, he and the group appeared in an hour-long television special and also released a new album, Justus.

Trivia: Upon receiving a master's degree in teaching at New York University, American actor Arnold Moss decided that the life of a teacher wasn't for him and set to find theatre work. Moss was engaged by the LeGallienne Civic Repertory Theatre, where he played his first villainous role in Peter Pan. Radio provided a great deal of work for Moss, whose deep, mellifluous voice was perfect for narration and commercial assignments; additionally, he produced and wrote for various radio series. The actor's first film was Temptation; with his Satanic eyebrows and raven-like features Moss was generally cast as high-born villains or sinister foreigners. Moss made two memorable appearances in Bob Hope films, first as Hope's Casablanca contact in the espionage spoof My Favorite Spy and then as a conniving Venetian doge in Casanova's Big Night. Arnold Moss was also shown to good advantage as the usurping Antonio in the 1960 Hallmark Hall of Fame production of Shakespeare's The Tempest, which starred Maurice Evans and Richard Burton.
