Tom Welling (Actor) .. Clark Kent
Born: April 26, 1977
Birthplace: Putnam Valley, New York, United States
Trivia: Born April 26th, 1977, actor Tom Welling is a former construction worker and soccer player who admits his indifference to comic books. After a few modeling jobs, he guest starred opposite Amy Brenneman on a few episodes of the CBS drama Judging Amy. In 2001 he was cast as the teenaged Clark Kent on the WB series Smallville. As the awkward young superhero with many opportunities to bear his chiseled chest, Welling won a Teen Choice award and was consequently branded a breakthrough star. He made his film debut in the 2003 remake Cheaper by the Dozen, along with fellow teen star Hilary Duff. He would also appear in the film's sequel in 2005, as well as a remake of John Carpenter's The Fog that same year, but mostly kept busy with his trademark role on Smallville, until the series ended its decade run in 2011. Welling took some time off once the show ended, but soon returned in the 2013 film Parkland (playing a secret service agent) and 2014's Draft Day (playing a professional quarterback).
Kristin Kreuk (Actor) .. Lana Lang
Born: December 30, 1982
Birthplace: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Trivia: Best known for her portrayal of Lana Lang, high-school sweetheart of Clark Kent, on the popular WB series Smallville, Vancouver-born Kristin Kreuk first pursued a formal acting career at the behest of her high-school drama teacher. The daughter of two landscape architects -- a Dutch father and an Indonesian mother -- Kreuk's mixed ethnicity made her attractive in a highly distinct way. In 1999, Kreuk (then 17) auditioned for a teen-oriented Canadian drama series, Edgemont; she segued from this into twin roles -- the lead in Snow White: The Fairest of Them All and the Lana Lang portrayal -- the following year. She also played Tenar in the cable miniseries adaptation of Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea and Fiona in the frat-boy comedy Eurotrip.
Michael Rosenbaum (Actor) .. Lex Luthor
Born: July 11, 1972
Birthplace: Oceanside, New York, United States
Trivia: Familiar to television addicts for sporting the trademark chrome-dome as (pre)criminal mastermind Lex Luthor on television's Smallville, self-assured actor Michael Rosenbaum has also provided voice-over work for such comic-book inspired animated series as Batman Beyond and Justice League (for which he voiced the role of the Flash). Born in Oceanside, Long Island, in July of 1972, Rosenbaum began his acting career in high school by landing a role in a play on a bet. Subsequently enamored with the stage, Rosenbaum earned a B.A. in theater and communications from Western Kentucky University. Continuing to act on-stage but hungering for more challenging roles, the aspiring actor packed his bags and set his sights on New York. Performing in off-Broadway plays and low-budgeted independent films, Rosenbaum fueled his passion and became familiar to nighttime television viewers in a recurring role as the "Amsterdam Kid" on Late Night With Conan O'Brien. It wasn't long before Rosenbaum was cast in the WB series Tom (starring Tom Arnold), and feature roles began to follow shortly after. Turning up in such films as Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997) and Urban Legend (1998), Rosenbaum would alternate between television (Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane, The Zeta Project) and film (Sweet November and Rave Macbeth [both 2001]) before turning up as one of a trio of gender-bending college students (alongside Harland Williams and Barry Watson) in 2002's Sorority Boys. In addition to acting, Rosenbaum is an avid hockey player/fan as well as a musician.
John Schneider (Actor) .. Jonathan Kent
Born: April 08, 1960
Birthplace: Mount Kisco, New York, United States
Trivia: In order to land the part of Bo Duke in the TV series The Dukes of Hazzard, John Schneider adopted a Cracker dialect and shambling good-ole-boy manner, claiming that he hailed from the tiny -- and fictional -- community of Snailville, Georgia. In fact, Schneider was born in Upstate New York, and was raised in Atlanta by his mom. During his teen years, Schneider picked up spending money by working as an entertainer at parties and public events, playing the guitar, telling jokes and performing a magic trick or two. He briefly attended the Georgia School of High Performance, hoping to become a race-car driver. His prowess behind the wheel enabled him to land his Dukes of Hazzard job, which he held down from 1979 to 1985, save for a brief 1982 walkout due to contract dispute. Schneider's Hazzard success allowed him to have both a recording career as a country music artist, and an ongoing presence on the small screen. In addition to numerous made-for-TV movies, he had a recurring role on the popular program Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. Schneider gained a whole new legion of fans as the Earth father of Superman when he began playing Jonathan Kent on the teen-oriented superhero series Smallville in 2001. He returned to the big screen with a starring role in 2006's Collier & Co., which he also directed. He would also appear in movies like Super Shark and on the TV series Hero Factory. In 2013, he took a starring role in The Haves and Have Nots, a sopa opera created by Tyler Perry.
Annette O'Toole (Actor) .. Martha Kent
Born: April 01, 1952
Birthplace: Houston, Texas, United States
Trivia: Woefully underappreciated American actress Annette O'Toole combined intelligence, wit, and delicate, often teasing allure with a girl-next-door magnetism that served her impeccably, both during her ingenue years and well into adulthood. Born in 1953, the scarlet-haired Houston native followed the lead of her dance studio owner mother by practicing her footwork with stunning determination. Annette's family moved to the City of Angels before her 14th birthday, where she shifted gears from dancing to acting, enrolled in drama courses, and landed guest roles in such series as The Partridge Family and Hawaii Five-O. In 1974, O'Toole tackled her first major feature role -- that of sweet-hearted beauty pageant contestant Doria Houston (otherwise known as Miss Anaheim) in Michael Ritchie's legendary satire Smile (1975). She did stellar work opposite Robby Benson in the romantic comedy One on One (1977), which premiered to favorable critical reviews, but a similar effort with Gary Busey a few years later, called Foolin' Around (1980), failed to display like chemistry. For better or worse, O'Toole's big break arrived in 1982, when she was cast opposite Christopher Reeve as Lana Lang in Superman 3; the film, of course, clocked in as an enormous stinker, overbloated to the point of absurdity, with O'Toole providing its only saving grace. That film imparted bittersweet undercurrents to O'Toole's life; it brought her the greatest character identification of her career, to be certain, but (along with an ill-advised appearance in Paul Schrader's awful 1982 movie Cat People), may have contributed to keeping her offscreen for several years. She rebounded with force in Armyan Bernstein's outstanding sex comedy Cross My Heart, as one of two romantic leads opposite Martin Short. The late 1987 release displayed the wit, charisma, and intelligence of both of its stars (and incorporated a hilarious nod to Superman 3, suggesting that Bernstein and Gail Parent may have written the role specifically for O'Toole), but for some unascertainable reason, failed to connect with an audience. O'Toole then signed for roles in the Alan Rudolph comedy-mystery Love at Large (1989) and the horrific Stephen King telemovie It (1990), which found the actress, along with John Ritter, Richard Thomas, and others, squaring off against homicidal clown Pennywise (Tim Curry). Her next major feat came in the late '90s, when she played Lisa, the spunky ex-wife of the police detective title character (Don Johnson) on the series Nash Bridges (1996-2001). She then achieved recognition by playing a different Superman role than the one previously essayed -- that of Clark Kent's mother, Martha -- on the popular prime-time series Smallville (2001). At about the same time, O'Toole made headlines by marrying her second husband, comedian and actor Michael McKean (Laverne & Shirley, This Is Spinal Tap), in 1999. The two co-authored a song for the Christopher Guest mockumentary A Mighty Wind (2003), entitled "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow," in which McKean co-starred sans O'Toole. In a particularly memorable bit, the couple performed that number together on-stage at the 2004 Academy Awards ceremony.
Sam Jones Iii (Actor) .. Pete Ross
Born: August 12, 1954
Trivia: With his Viking-warrior features and Adonislike physique, Sam J. Jones looked as if he'd just stepped out of an adventure comic strip. Accordingly, he was cast in such comix-to-cinema projects as Flash Gordon (1980), The Spirit (1987), and Jane and the Lost City (1989). On a more down-to-earth level, Jones was fine indeed as Dudley Moore's unwitting rival for the affections of Bo Derek in 10 (1979). Sam Jones' series-TV credits include the roles of Chris Rorchek in Code Red (1981-82) and the title character in The Highwayman (1988).
Allison Mack (Actor) .. Chloe Sullivan
Born: July 29, 1982
Birthplace: Preetz, West Germany
Trivia: Actress Allison Mack began her career at a young age. She was appearing in commercials when she was only a toddler, and she began studying at the Young Actor's Space in Los Angeles when she was just seven. She was appearing in TV movies by the time she was eight, wracking up a considerable resumé by the time she was in her teens. It was then that she gained some attention for playing a troubled teen in an episode of 7th Heaven, which led to an audition for the series Smallville. Mack was cast as Chloe Sullivan, a character that proved to be extremely popular.
John Glover (Actor) .. Lionel Luthor
Born: August 07, 1944
Trivia: A longtime character actor with a reputation for taking on villainous roles with gleeful abandon and a subtle touch of humor, John Glover was once dubbed "the supreme rotter of the '80s" by the late film critic Pauline Kael, thanks to unforgettable performances in such films as 52 Pick-Up, Masquerade, and Scrooged. Always injecting his baddies with an element of quirk and personality, Glover later gravitated away from a life of cinematic crime to success with more sympathetic roles in Love! Valour! Compassion! and Mid-Century. A Salisbury, MD, native who pursued his higher education at Towson State Teacher's College, Glover began an off-Broadway career in the late '60s, which led to small parts in the mid-'70s in such films as Shamus (1973) and Annie Hall (1977). With occasional small-screen roles balancing out his features, Glover began carving out a villainous niche for himself during the '80s in such movies as The Evil That Men Do and 52 Pick-Up. Though Glover's big-screen work served as his bread and butter, more sympathetic television appearances -- as a valiant AIDS patient in An Early Frost (1985) and a dedicated doctor in L.A. Law -- earned the actor a pair of Emmy nominations. As his career progressed, Glover became an increasingly prominent figure on TV thanks to parts in Miami Vice, Murder, She Wrote, and Frasier, and his "villains" became ever more quirky in such high-profile features as Gremlins 2: The New Batch and Robocop 2. Glover's roles were also becoming increasingly diverse. Offering a side of himself rarely seen by audiences, he played artist Leonardo DaVinci in the 1991 made-for-TV feature A Season of Giants, and then portrayed another villain, this time the biggest of them all -- the Devil himself -- in the 1998 series Brimstone. Beginning in 1992, Glover did voice work for the popular superhero cartoon Batman: The Animated Series and, later, Batman: Gotham Nights; he also had onscreen roles in the live-action feature Batman & Robin and the WB series Smallville. Glover often returns to his alma matter (now called Towson University) to work with the drama students at the school's Fine Arts College.
Eric Johnson (Actor) .. Whitney Fordman
Born: August 07, 1979
Birthplace: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Trivia: Began acting as a child for Stage Polaris, a theater company in Edmonton. Played the younger version of Brad Pitt's character in the film Legends of the Fall. Breakout role was as football jock Whitney Fordman on Smallville. Participated in the Crazy8 film competition by directing a short film called Candy from Strangers, based on a script written by his wife. In 2010, he joined the cast of the crime drama Rookie Blue. In 2012, replaced Michael Ironside as the voice of hero Sam Fisher in the Splinter Cell video-game franchise; Johnson calls video-game work "a wholly new process to me."
Erica Durance (Actor) .. Lois Lane
Born: June 21, 1978
Birthplace: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Trivia: Born in Three Hills, Alberta, Erica Durance is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Canada who first made an impression on television viewers by following in the footsteps of actress Margot Kidder with her portrayal of intrepid Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane on the popular Superman series Smallville. Appearances on such popular sci-fi television series as Tru Calling, Stargate SG-1, and Andromeda served well to help the rising star solidify her genre credibility, but the actress would earn even more accolades for her perofrmance on the medical drama Saving Hope.
Justin Hartley (Actor) .. Oliver Queen/Green Arrow
Born: January 27, 1977
Birthplace: Knoxville, Illinois, United States
Trivia: American actor Justin Hartley debuted in 2005 in a small supporting role in Russell Brown's gentle, understated romance Race You to the Bottom (2005), about the amorous relationship that blossoms between a bisexual travel writer (Cole Williams) and a female friend from his college days (Amber Benson). He went on to play Fox Crane on the daytime drama Passions, and was poised to protray Aquaman in a CW show of the same name, but the network chose not to go forward with the series after shooting a pilot. Hartley nonetheless got to take on a superhero role shortly thereafter, playing billionaire Oliver Queen (aka the Green Arrow) in several episodes of the popular CW Superman series Smallville between 2006 and 2011. Over the coming years, Hartley would remain active on screen, appearing in films like Spring Breakdown and Scorpio Men on Prozac.
Cassidy Freeman (Actor) .. Tess Mercer
Born: April 22, 1982
Birthplace: Chicago, Illinois, United States
Trivia: Started performing at age 3. Started her theater career at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Graduated magna cum laude from Middlebury College. Sings and plays piano. Performs in the band the Real D'Coy with her brother Clark. Is a member of Los Angeles' Sight Unseen Theatre Group, which was cofounded by her brother Clark.
