About Michaela Coel
Daughter of Ghanaian parents.
Her parents separated before she was born, and was raised by her mother.
Studied at Prima del Teatro and Theatre Royal Stratford East.
Performed in poetry open mics under the name Michaela The Poet.
Playwright Ché Walker encouraged her to study acting.
Wore a Kente cloth dress designned by her mother to attend the 2016 BAFTA Awards.
