Parents are British. Attended Gannon University on a football scholarship, but was plagued by injuries and had to stop playing. Played rugby for Capilano Rugby Football Club in Canada; his brothers are both professional rugby players.
Auditioned for the lead in Superman Returns, but lost out to Brandon Routh.
