Biography
About Guddi Maruti
Is the daughter of renowned Bollywood actor-director-producer Maruti Parab and actress Kamal Parab. Used to pick up fights with boys at school because of being teased for her weight. Went fishing with Bollywood actor Shammi Kapoor while her father went hunting with actor Johnny Walker and others.
Got her first break in the Bollywood film Jaan Haazir Hain (1975) when she was in 6th standard. Had the birth name Tahira Parab, but filmmaker Manmohan Desai rechristened her Guddi Maruti because she was Maruti's daughter and her nickname was Guddi. Had to support her family after her father passed away when she was still young.
Replaced actress Preeti Ganguly for a fat girl's role in the song Moti Palle Pai Gayi in Sau Din Saas Ke (1980) because the actress had lost weight. Shed 10 kilos of weight when she performed in the stand-up comedy show Sorry Meri Lorry (1995). Lost her brother Dara Munawar Ali in 1997 after an attack by Chotta Shakeel' s henchman.
Married a businessman and had trouble conceiving due to her overweight issue. Made a comeback on the silver screen in the Bollywood film Hum Sab Ullu Hain (2015) after a hiatus of nine years.
