Before acting he worked in the service industry, as dish-washer, cleaner and waiter, amongst other jobs. Played his first lead part on the big screen in Jaan Tere Naam (1992). Owner of a security company which has serviced Bollywood and Hollywood stars such as Amitabh Bachchan and Brad Pitt.
Winner of several Indian Telly Awards, including the Best Actor in a Lead Role award for his portrayal of the character Dharamraj Mahiuavanshi in the series Bandini (2009). Won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his performance in Udaan (2010).
