After leaving school, entered the world of work as a labourer, before starting up his own construction business. In 2016 co-wrote, with Jeremy Sheldon and John Miller, the original screenplay for action-comedy film Golden Years. Is an avid vegan: published a cookbook in 2017, entitled Proper Healthy Food: Hearty Vegan and Vegetarian Recipes for Meat Lovers.
Is credited as 'Presenter, DIY avoider and tea boy' for his most popular and long-running show, DIY SOS, despite his background in construction. Is an enthusiastic supporter of various charities for young people, including Children in Need and Act Against Bullying.
