About Lisa Gay Hamilton

Made her Broadway debut as Grace in the original production of August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Piano Lesson in 1990. Appeared in several stage productions with the New York Shakespeare Festival on the Delacorte Stage in Central Park. Won an Obie Award, Drama Desk Award and Clarence Derwent Award for her role as Veronica in Athol Fugard's Valley Song at the Manhattan Theatre Club in 1995.
Played the role of Black Mary in August Wilson's Broadway production of Gem of the Ocean. Received a 2004 Peabody Award for a documentary film she directed titled Beah: A Black Woman Speaks.
