Biography
About Tom Alter
His parents are American Christian missionaries of English and Scottish descent. Was a sports teacher in a school in Jagadhri, Haryana before he started working as an actor. His acting idol is Rajesh Khanna, who inspired him to start with acting.
Made his acting debut in Charas (1976). Was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, in 2008. He hopes his book The Longest Race inspires young people to excercise and to do more sports.
