Started his acting career in theater as an understudy.
Made his film debut and television debut in 1987.
Met wife actress Luisa Ranieri on the set of Cefalonia (2005).
Has appeared with his wife actress Luisa Ranieri in multiple projects, including Cefalonia (2005), Maldamore (2014) and Il giudice meschino (2014).
Best known for playing Commissario Salvo Montalbano in Inspector Montalbano.
