Biography
About Dina Pathak
Had refused to enroll in "Laadli Bibi"— a school meant exclusively for purdah-clad girls, but instead prevailed over her parents to be admitted in a boys' school. Studied in many colleges in Bombay as she was rusticated from college frequently for students activism. Was drawn towards theatre movement and became a founder member of the IPTA (Indian Progressive Theatre Movement).
Made her silver screen acting debut in Us Ki Kahani (1965) which won her a Bengal Journalists Association Award. Played the title role in Mena Gurjari during 1957 – the first Gujarati play performed at the Rashtrapati Bhavan (the official home of the president of India). Was married to Baldev Pathak for 23 years and was a widow for 23 years.
Became the President of the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) that deals with women centric issues. Passed away in 2002 after prolonged illness at her daughter Ratna Pathak's Bandra residence in Mumbai, India. Received a Genie nomination (Canada''s equivalent to the Academy Award) after demise for her performance in a Supporting Role for the film Bollywood/Hollywood (2002).
