Biography
About Zakir Hussain
A world famous tabla player, his talent was apparent at an early age. He began touring when he was only eleven. Was awarded the highest recognition in India for a practicing artist, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar, in 1990.
Prominently featured on Mickey Hart's collaboration album Planet Drums, which won the inaugural Grammy Award for Best World Music Album in 1992. Composed and performed the music for the multiple National Film Award winning Vanaprastham - The Last Dance (1999). Received the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour, in 2002.
