Is of Arrente/Arabana Australian Aboriginal descent. Was born on an Ansett Airlines flight 40 minutes outside of Alice Springs; became known as the "Ansett Baby". Worked as a journalist for ABC before pursuing acting.
First TV appearance was in 1994 in the mini-series Heartland. Was Cleo's Bachelor of the Year in 1994. In 1995, co-hosted the game show Gladiators Australia.
Has appeared in numerous theatrical productions including the 2004 Playbox Theatre's production of Conversations with the Dead and the 2005 Melbourne Theatre Company's production of King Lear. Is the primary caregiver for his brother Vinnie who has cerebral palsy; their relationship was explored in the 2006 documentary My Brother Vinnie. In 2007, was a recipient of the Bob Maza Fellowship, awarded annually to an indigenous actor to aid career development.
Has played a detective in a variety of police-themed programs including Water Rats, City Homicide and the 2013 telemovie Mystery Road.
