Was accepted into Mensa at age 10. Grew up in Sydney's beachside suburb of Cronulla, where his pastimes consisted of swimming, surfing, cycling, golf and rugby. Travelled to the United Kingdom in 2002 to star in a production of the musical Godspell in which he alternated the lead roles of Jesus and Judas with English entertainer Jonathan Wilkes on a nightly basis.
While shooting City Homicide and Dancing With the Stars, competed in two Ironman Triathalons, China and Hawaii, in 2009. Received a Silver Logie nomination for Most Popular Actor for his work on the Australian television period drama Wild Boys.
