Started acting at age 8. Made TV debut in Young Hercules in 1998. Starred in a one-man show titled The Packer, which he performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and took on tour in Australia, New Zealand and Los Angeles.
Shadowed working doctors in preparation for his role as a hospital employee in the Australian series Offspring. Changed his surname from Bunyan to Ryan, a name from his mother's family, when he began auditioning for roles in L.A.
