Family moved to Fairview, Texas, when he was in fourth grade. Was one of two students in the state, in his senior year in high school, to be awarded a scholarship by the Texas Thespians based on a monologue he performed. Got his big break as the lead in the 2003 film Levelland, when producers were impressed by his audition for a previous film that was put on hold.
Moved to Los Angeles in 2003, where his first acting job was on the television series, ER. He had four lines.
