About Maia Mitchell

Took dance lessons as a child. Learned to play guitar at a young age; also sings and writes her own songs. Discovered a passion for acting by performing in school and local theater productions.
Got her big break at age 12, when she was cast as the lead in the Australian TV series Mortified. Continued her early success by starring in subsequent Australian series, including Trapped and its sequel, Castaway. First U.S. roles were McKenzie in Disney's Teen Beach Movie (2013) and Callie in the ABC Family drama series The Fosters.
Connects to her character in The Fosters due to a family member who had experienced the foster-care system.
