Was serving as a personal driver to comedian Panchito when actor Dolphy discovered him in the 1960s. Was renamed Babalu for the screen by director Ading Fernando, due to his long chin (Baba is Filipino for chin). Started his career with TV show, Buhay Artista, on ABS-CBN.
Was fondly known as Mang Bab among his friends and co-stars.
