Moved to Puerto Rico at the age of 10.
As a minor, worked at a grocery store to help support his family.
Was discovered by the wife of a music executive while performing in front of the grocery store where he worked.
The name Nicky Jam was given to him by a homeless man.
Was in the duo Los Cangris with Daddy Yankee, which broke up in 2004.
