Biography
About Norman Douglas Selby
Claiming to have been " the real McCoy," boxer Kid McCoy (aka Norman Gordon Selby) made his screen debut as early as 1899, when he appeared in The Reproduction of Kid McCoy and Peter Maher Fight. The phrase "the real McCoy" allegedly appeared in the press coverage after another bout that year, a big victory on points over Joe Choinsky. Turning to acting in the mid-1910s, McCoy/Selby played a detective in The House of Glass (1918), a prizefighter in D.W. Griffith's Broken Blossoms (1919), a ring manager in April Showers (1923), and various tough guys in potboilers ranging from Tom Mix's Arabia (1922) to the farce Loose Ankles (1930), his final credited film.
Selby later committed suicide.
