About Jay Pharoah

Starting doing impressions at age 6. Worked comedy clubs in Virginia at 15. Made his debut on Saturday Night Live on September 25, 2010.
An audition tape played a key role in bringing him his SNL gig. On an SNL episode in 2010, he paid tribute to a principal at his high school, using a slightly different name than that of the actual man, Jimmy Frye---who was aware of Pharoah's plan and was fine with it. Pharoah was "always serious about his comedy," Frye said.
"It's just a nice gesture that he remembered me."
