About Teyonah Parris

Was a member of her school's cheerleading and dance teams during high school. Modeled and participated in pageants before deciding to pursue a career in acting. Made her Broadway debut in 2010 in a stage production of John Guare's A Free Man of Color starring Mos Def and Jeffrey Wright.
Participated in a photo shoot for the Designers Against AIDS project in honor of World AIDS Day. Appeared in a national television commercial for McDonald's in 2012. Nominated for the NAACP Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture and won the Best Actress Award from the African-American Film Critics Association for her starring role as Lysistrata in Spike Lee's Chi-Raq in 2015.
In 2016, participated in the American Black Film Festival's panel called Black Women in Hollywood: The Future Looks Bright.
