His mother, famous actress Smita Patil, died two weeks after giving birth to him, following complications from the childbirth. Assisted advertisement filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar before becoming an actor. Debuted in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008) alongside Imran Kahn.
Nominated for the Filmfare Best Male Debut and Best Supporting Actor awards in 2009. Has featured on the Times of India Most Desirable Men list.
