First acted in a seventh-grade play, playing a baby. Recruited by Brown University to run track in college, during which time he broke the school's record for the 110m hurdle event. Taught acting and poetry classes as a middle-school teacher after graduating from Brown.
Founded an experimental-rap group called Clipping. Released his debut solo rap album titled Small Things to a Giant in 2012. Met Lin-Manuel Miranda after becoming a member of his improv rap group, Freestyle Love Supreme.
Originated the roles of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in Lin-Manuel Miranda's widely-acclaimed Broadway production of Hamilton in 2015. Broke the record for fastest rap performed on a Broadway stage in Hamilton, rapping 19 words in 3 seconds.
