About Kyrie Irving
Moved to the U.S. from Australia (where his father played pro basketball) at the age of 2. Teamed with fellow future pro Michael Gilchrist at St. Patrick's High in New Jersey. Named co-MVP (with Harrison Barnes) of the 2010 McDonald's All-American Game.
Played the baritone saxophone and performed in a high-school production of High School Musical while at St. Pat's. Suffered a toe injury in December of freshman season at Duke, leaving him out of action until the NCAA Tournament, where he scored 28 points in the Blue Devils' Sweet 16 loss to Arizona. Drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, becoming the third guard in four years to go No.
1. Was named 2011-12 Rookie of the Year; was the 2014 All-Star Game MVP; and won a gold medal in the 2014 World Cup (tournament MVP). In game 5 of the 2016 NBA Finals, he and LeBron James each scored 41 points, making the duo the first pair of teammates in NBA history to score 40+ points in the same finals game.
With the U.S. national team, won a gold medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Played the role of "Uncle Drew" in a series of Pepsi commercials. Owns a stake and endorses Skullcandy earphones.
