Received vocal training from the director of the Brooklyn College of Opera. Costarred in Thinner (1996), her feature-film debut, during her sophomore year in high school. Landed the role of Reva's clone on Guiding Light in 1998; was brought back seven months later to play Michelle Bauer.
Was nominated with Guiding Light costar Paul Anthony Stewart for a 2000 Soap Opera Digest Award as Favorite Couple. Used Joie Lenz as her stage name until 2003. Her role of Haley on One Tree Hill was rewritten to showcase her singing ability.
Formed the musical duo Everly with friend Amber Sweeney in 2008. Opened Galeotti's Restaurant in Washington state in 2009. Supports the international human-rights organization Love146.
